Marvel Debunks AI Rumors Surrounding The Fantastic Four: First Steps Poster

The studio released the image early Tuesday, prompting speculation on social media. Despite the buzz, Marvel has confirmed that AI was not used to create a new poster for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the studio stated Tuesday.

The Disney-owned studio unveiled the First Steps poster alongside the film’s first teaser early Tuesday morning. The image features a group of 20th-century men and women gathered in a crowd, waving at what is presumed to be the Fantastic Four embarking on a superhero mission.

While many fans celebrated the release, others quickly noticed inconsistencies in the design. Some pointed out individuals with only four fingers, while two women in the image appeared to have identical faces. This led to speculation that Marvel had employed AI to generate the poster. However, a studio spokesperson denied the allegations, clarifying that the artwork was not AI-generated.

This controversy comes in the wake of similar debates surrounding the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist, which faced accusations that AI was used to enhance its dialogue. Director Brady Corbet refuted these claims, explaining that stars Adrian Brody and Felicity Jones dedicated months to working with a dialect coach to perfect their Hungarian accents. Corbet further clarified that only the Hungarian portions of the film were manually adjusted using Respeecher technology.

“The aim was to preserve the authenticity of Adrien and Felicity’s performances in another language, not to replace or alter them, and it was done with the utmost respect for the craft,” Corbet stated.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman and features a star-studded cast, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The highly anticipated movie is set to hit theaters in July.
